Finally I get to blog about my full term for a bit.
Khaisah really does occupy most of my time. I guess it's true when they say although you're on maternity leave, it isn't a holiday in entirety cause you are to take care of your child and your newborn child certainly requires full and uninterrupted attention. And that my dears, consume at least half of the day. But believe me, being a mom is the best thing that can ever happen to me. It beats everything above and beyond.
Before that, allow me to wish you Salam Ramadhan :) May Allah shower us with His Mercy and Rahmah through out this entire holy month.
Onto my full term experience.
At 35th week, I went for my weekly check up. All these while it has been the same routine check up (urine, weight and ultra sound) but during this week. It was different. I was informed by my gynae that the baby was already engaged, which was normal at this stage but this time, she was engaged a lil bit lower than expected. Curious he was, he asked me to do a CTG scan (a scan to monitor the fetal heartbeat and contractions) to determine at which stage I was in. To his surprise and ours too, my contractions were 5 minutes apart - and that's considered as first stage of labour. Dr. Guna had to break the news to me that I may deliver earlier than expected - as soon as that weekend onwards (bear in mind that my check up was on Wednesday).
Hashley was excited but me .. I was anxious to the t. Panic too.
I wasn't worried of my condition, I was worried that I could not complete the Induction course I was attending at ILKAP, Bangi. I even had an exam scheduled the next week! Lol. Crazy right? I should be worried sick that I'm due anytime by now but instead I was praying really, really hard that Allah could stall my due date so that I could sit for the exam. I simply do not wish to repeat the course in any way again.
But can you imagine me attending the course with the huge baby bump with my infamous water retention feet? My right foot was effin huge - Shrek feet I call it. Sampai semua kasut dah tak muat dah and malu okay. People actually noticed how big it was! I was really pushing myself to the brim and surprisingly I was that strong to attend to begin with. We were to walk up and down the hill, sit for 8-9 hours listening to lectures, study for the exam. You know for a fact that any heavily pregnant lady at this stage is not comfortable at any point of time. Duduk lama salah, diri lama salah, jalan lama salah, panas salah, sejuk salah. Everything was just not comfortable. Speaking of which, the frequent toilet visits. My gosh .. I had to squat to pee! At that time only Allah knows how heavy and difficult for me to get up. Bahahaha. But syukur Alhamdulillah, I had no morning/evening sickness - never once that I threw up through out my pregnancy so I guess that helped me to go through the course.
I was happily gaining weight - up to 21kilos my dears (that's considered a lot according to my doctor friends) but if you read articles on weight gain during pregnancy, mine is considered normal judging that I was underweight prior to being pregnant. I have always wanted to gain weight before this but it was almost impossible due to my high metabolic rate. I always complain that I wanted to gain weight, nak gemuk yadayada but to no avail. All it took was for me to get pregnant and voila, weight gaining was too much for my liking. I was told to shut up by countless people whom I've nagged to before this haha so ladies, be careful of what you wish for. Nak gain weight, sila lah get pregnant. Lol.
Other than that, my movements became restricted. I was in a fragile stage so to speak, so no driving, no hard work, no carrying heavy stuff, no baking, no this and no that. Even sleeping was a chore. Every position was uncomfortable, in fact switching sides was painful for my back.
But I have to say this. In all honesty, my pregnancy can safely be considered a smooth sailing one. I didn't have to go through much trouble - no morning sickness or any other serious stuff like placenta previa etc. What I was experiencing is mediocre - water retention, diarrhoea, migraine, tiredness, a lil bit of nausea. Alhamdulillah, I am grateful that the pregnancy journey was fine. I feel truly blessed for that. I can't imagine having to go through what my mom, aunties, cousins or friends had to go through.
So that was how my full term go. Till the next post on my labour experience, insya Allah. Selamat berbuka puasa love!
