We made that decision to move some time earlier this year after considering various factors - finances and commuting to work mainly, and immediately informed our tenant who has been renting our place for more than a year. Our tenant, a couple - husband, a journalist and wife, a full time baker, returned back the keys in March and so the whole process of moving in began.
Truth be told, we have been preparing to move late last year, buying furniture for the house albeit in small numbers. Started off by purchasing a 2+3 seater sofa, bed frame, dining set, fridge (thanks FIL), washing machine (thanks MIL), living and family hall air cons (thanks Mama) and kitchen appliances etc. The tenant was awesome enough to sell off 2 units of air cons and a water heater that were merely a year old for only RM800 so we got that too. During this time too, we were busy going to and fro to home expos, more furniture hunting and vintage scourings. And I obviously did a lot of research, adding photos to my inspiration "virtual" boards in visualising how my house will look like.
Rome wasn't built in a day, I tell my greedy nak everything self. Lol. It was just so exciting to be moving in into our own place - imagine having so much space for ourselves and an entire house to chuck our stuff around. Khaisah and her own play room, us having the master bedroom to ourselves and own kitchen to work our foodie magic on!
We engaged a contractor to do some repairings and paint jobs for the entire interior of the house, save for the kitchen. Initially, we intended to extend the back part of the house to make it a wet kitchen and laundry area but money was a bit on the low side at that time. Guess that'll probably be a different time's project, someday, insya Allah.
So alhamdulillah, June 15th was our first official night in the house.

Amongst others, we did these in total:
1. Repaired the ceiling at the top floor's living hall.
2. Paint job for the entire house - all 4 bedrooms, living hall, family hall.
3. Curtains.
4. Bought all the furniture and appliances as evidenced (and not evidenced) in the photos.
5. Rummaged through the wedding gifts that were collecting dust for 3 years which we can finally use for the house.
And I tell you, it's a never ending process. I just bought 6 drawer dresser, a side board and an entry table. I still need more decorative pieces to add character to the house though. And most of the stuff that I have my eye on are the ones available in the US! Why can't we have those pretty rugs etc here?
Things we need still:
1. Built in closet (tentatively end of the year)
2. Get chandeliers.
3. Repair some of the wirings.
4. Wifi connection / telephone line.
5. Dressers, carpet and storage system for the kids' room.
6. Wing chair.
7. The dream kitchen cabinet.
8. Couple of rugs more.
9. Decorative pieces - paintings etc
10. Some kitchen appliances more.
In a nutshell, I'm enjoying the space and freedom I'm getting (but not the traffic to work at the notorious Damansara toll, pfftt) and the neighbourhood has been kind thus far, alhamdulillah. Will share on the updates on the house from time to time. Now don't go spreading rumours about me spending my husband's money away, buying luxury bags and us mortgaging our house! Hehe bye! :)
